The New England Patriots have reached a big-time extension with safety Kyler Dugger, per NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

Dugger was initially designated with the transition tag on March 5th, which held a value of a 1-year, $13.8 million deal.

The reported new deal is worth 4 years, $58 million with a max value of $66 million. $32.5 million of it is guaranteed.

Dugger had what many would label as a "down year," yet he also took on considerably more responsibility in a single-high coverage role. Prior to 2023, he had never logged more than 82 snaps at free safety. However, in 2023, he played 371 snaps in that position. Whether the team will persist in utilizing him in a role akin to Devin McCourty's or if he will return to being a full-time box safety remains uncertain.
