The New England Patriots have agreed to a deal with former Washington Commanders running back Antonio Gibson, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Former Washington Commanders RB Antonio Gibson.

Gibson had 48 catches for the Washington Commanders last season and occasionally lined up at WR. His best season was in 2021 when he rushed for 1,037 yards and seven touchdowns. Additionally, he caught 42 passes for another 294 yards and three touchdowns. He adds some much-needed versatility and depth to the RB room.

This signing also tracks with Eliot Wolf's words of "weaponizing the offense", and the emphasis he has expressed at getting more athletic all around. Gibson has a 90th percentile + Relative Athletic Score, making him an elite athlete.

Gibson is also one of the better pass protecting running backs in football, as initial mentioned by the Boston Globe's Andrew Callahan.

MassLive's Mark Daniels is reporting that it is a three year deal, more details to come.
